"Oh my goodness, I should have known that. Now I recall asking that before. I was looking at the picture on my phone and couldn't really tell. I think I keep getting thrown off by the big scope on it! LOL! Sometimes you must wonder about me! : )…"

Hunting Western Oregon's Black-Tailed Bucks

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 9:00pm 0 Comments

Last Saturday morning the weather was just beautiful in Western Oregon, which generally means no deer. That proved to be true for me. I didn't see hide nor hair of my elusive quarry.

The only thing I saw was some mountains, some…

Buck Fever

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 9:00pm 2 Comments

I am getting excited about the upcoming General Deer Rifle Season here in Oregon. Going to be hunting a big blacktail buck in Western Oregon.

I went out and shot my Ruger M77 Mk II .243 on Saturday. Was able to put five bullets in a 2 - 2 1/2 inch group just above the bullseye at 100 yards.

That should do the trick! Season starts October 1st. Looks like the weather might be turning just in time.

Anybody else getting buck fever?

I'm primarily a Lake Erie Islands walleye and perch fisherman. A bad knee has taken me out of the hunting action but I have son's and grandsons who have picked up and exceeded where I left off. .

Yes, archery season opened last Saturday. I didn't take a deer but saw a blond coyote and had a great time. I will be adding a blog post about opening day tomorrow. Thanks for the comment.

I see it now :) Thanks, I've got to ask him if that musky pic was taken in virginia. If so, I'd be up for that adventure.

IT has been pretty slow the last little while.  We have gotten out a few times bugling, which is always fun to get the elk worked up and screaming.  Saw a nice bull not far from your parents' home.  As the weather turns colder the browns are getting ready to spawn and I hope to be out  to take advantage of that!

been slow for a week or so, but just had a sale a little bit ago. the elk antlers are diffucult to use for pens do the the size. but i did go back and pick those elk antlers up. they are massive. biggest antlers i've ever held. i'm still thinking of what to use them for, i'll figure something out. thanks for the link. i'm thinking of closing the other website and just using etsy

I definitely will invite him to join. I'm sure he'd like to share his experiences and learn some new stuff too. That is nice that you don't have to depend on a draw to get a Deer tag. It is a crap shoot in AZ. Deer tags are easier to get if you choose the right area and over the counter tags are available for some areas but Elk tags are harder to get in the areas I know and feel comfortable being in the back country. I have tried unsuccessfully for the past 4 years to put in for an area just north of Strawberry, Az in units 5 and 6 ( AZ residents will know where I am talking about) but there is alway's next year right? :) Coues are still fun to hunt, I mostly enjoy the experience of jumping doe or just sitting on top of a hill and glassing in some of Arizona's beautiful high desert country. I can't wait to get out and hunt!

Your site is awesome! I really enjoy reading the stories you've posted and hope to have some of my own soon! I wasn't drawn for Elk this year so my brother-in-law and I put in for Deer and were drawn for Coues Whitetail. Our hunt is at the end of October and we are going just south east of Queen Creek, Az. It should be great weather and a great chance to get out and rough it, take in nature and hopefully come out of the experience with a full tag. We made a pact a while back that if we were drawn that we would each get a new rifle and to our wifes dismay we were drawn so he recently bought a remington 700 in 30-06 and I bought a used Remington 7400 in 30-06 to add to my collection :) He and I have also attempted a few fishing trips over the last few months but nothing has worked out yet. I did get to do some trout fishing at the end March but got skunked. Did made some lasting memories with my Girls though :) Do you have any hunts planned? I hope all is going well for you and your family! Tell your wife and son I said Hi! (I haven't forgot their names I just figured you'd want their names kept out of the forum)
